Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum
Question: Leona Mattson asks: I am looking for a hotel in Washington, D.C. for a trip in April with two young children. We need a safe neighborhood and prefer a suite with separate bedroom. What do you recommend?

Answer: Rich Francisco, travel planner at the AAA office in Wilmington, Delaware, answers: The Holiday Inn Capitol at 550 C Street SW is located only one block from the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum and is within walking distance to all major monuments and Smithsonian Museums. This is a tourist area and is rated highly for walkability because there are stores, restaurants, metro stops and things to do within walking distance.
The Holiday Inn Capitol is a AAA Approved Three Diamond hotel and has 532 guest rooms, including 13 suites. Call your local AAA office or check for the best rates at AAA.com/Travel.

If you're looking for suite accommodations, there are two Embassy Suites in downtown Washington, D.C., both are in good locations, one near the Verizon Center/Convention Center, the other in the West End of Georgetown. A full cooked to order breakfast is included in the rate. A short walk to metro stops. Numerous restaurants in easy walking distance. If you don't want to stay downtown, the Embassy Suites in Crystal City is also a good choice. It's near the subway and Pentagon City Shopping Mall. The suites generally include one bedroom and a sleep sofa in the living room. Enjoy your time in Washington, DC. In April the city does get a bit crowded with the Cherry Blossom Festival going on, however it's the best time of the year to visit the city.

I went to Washington, D.C. last summer and found that some of the B&Bs had suites or small apartments for around $180/night. I used this web site http://www.bbonline.com/dc/washington.html
