A Royal Hotel Stay on Bangkok's River of Kings

Chao Phraya River - Bangkok, Thailand
Question: Elle asks: I am planning a trip to Bangkok in July. Any suggestions for a good hotel that is not too expensive? I would also like information on Krabi, Thailand.

Answer: Tonya Powell, Vacation Sales Specialist in the Chico, Calif., AAA office says: The Peninsula Bangkok has really great rates for a very luxurious hotel and great views of the Chao Phraya River also known as the "River of Kings." They even have their own pier for the river barge, making easy access to many of the temples and attractions. I have had clients stay there and they have really enjoyed it. Another option is the Royal Orchid Sheraton, a great luxury hotel which is also close to the Chao Phraya River with great views of the "River of Kings" and river barge access.  However, Royal Orchid Sheraton will be undergoing renovations until September, but it's a great opportunity for lower rates. Location - location - location -- both would make for excellent choices in Bangkok.

While you are in Bangkok, you may also wish to consider a privately guided tour and hotel package. This includes a choice of hotels, breakfast daily, and guided private car sightseeing, transfers and sightseeing tours to three of the city’s finest temples, including the Temple of the Golden Buddha. This can be booked through your AAA travel agent. We have information on Krabi in the AAA Spiral Thailand travel guide. It’s available at www.barnesandnoble.com or through www.AAA.com/barnesandnoble, with a discount for AAA members.
