Question: Phyllis asks: I understand that Maine has the best lobsters. Is this true? If yes, where should I go for them if I fly into Portland, Maine. If not, where are they, and where should I go? This is one of those extravagant trips like the commercial where the guy drives his car to Maine or somewhere just for the chowder. I’d like to go in June unless you feel I can get better lobsters at another time of year.
Answer: Jacquelyn Thomes, supervisor at the Portland, Maine, AAA office says: "My city is the perfect place to enjoy lobsters. Try the
Lobster Shack at Two Lights State Park in nearby Cape Elizabeth. This local landmark on the water has been in place since the 1920s. You can dine inside, but I recommend that you eat at the picnic tables outside to enjoy the real deal! The Lobster Shack is open from the end of March through the end of October. Summer months are best for lobsters,

so June would be an ideal time to go. While there, you can visit the lighthouse in nearby Fort Williams Park, one of the oldest lighthouses in the country."
The anonymous AAA inspector for the area agrees, noting that the Two Lights Lobster Shack is "popular with locals and tourists alike, and offers excellent seafood and great views of the lighthouse. Specialties include clam chowder and lobster stew as well as lobster dinners. Desserts are made on the premises." The restaurant has a One Diamond rating, reflecting its simplicity and value, not a low rating of quality. Click
